Jewish Family Services

 

Jewish Family Services (JFS) addresses issues that affect the Bluegrass Jewish community by offering direct and indirect support services. The staff of JFS provides services in a manner sensitive to Jewish culture, values, and ideals. JFS promotes the dignity and self-respect of its clients while helping individuals, families and elder community members maintain a self-sustaining lifestyle. Major services offered include case management, assessment and coordination of services, information and referral to other community resources, crisis intervention, elder care assistance, processing requests for financial assistance, and advocacy for members of the Jewish community. The principle of confidentiality is intrinsic in all agency functions. There is no charge for JFS services.

Jewish Family Life Education

 

JFS offers a variety of informational and educational programs of concern to the Jewish family. Past topics have ranged from Restaging Life for Retirement, Identity Theft, Foster Care and Adoption, Understanding Suicide, Preventing Child Abuse, and Death and Dying. The goal of these programs is to dialogue about problems in daily living and current social issues. JFS has also organized joint educational programs with the Lexington Chapter of Hadassah on topics such as stress management, substance abuse, domestic violence, women's health issues, and internet safety.

Bikur Cholim

 

Bikur Cholim is a friendly visitor program matching volunteers with people who may be isolated because they are either homebound or have experienced a medical problem. Volunteers are coordinated and screened through Jewish Family Services. Training is also offered to the Bikur volunteers through Jewish Family Services.

Camperships and Israel Scholarships

 

Want to give your kids a great Jewish experience this year but worried about the cost?

Each year during late Winter and Spring, JFS accepts applications for camperships and scholarships. Scholarships are specifically for Israel programs. Camperships are open to ANY Jewish day or overnight camp in our region, including our local Camp Shalom.

DEADLINE FOR ALL CAMPERSHIP AND ISRAEL SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATIONS IS APRIL 1, 2020.
